I was born and raised in the north of Paraná. This book tells the history of the region, from colonization based on coffee plantations, to the struggles of agricultural movements, and the military dictatorship.
It helped me better understand my roots and made me realize that, culturally and historically, this region is more connected to the interior of São Paulo than to the capital of Paraná. As a result, it even changed how I define myself.
Everything in the book seems well-researched and fact-checked. But I have to say,the author has an obssession with left-leaning topics.
He describes how bad was the military dictatorship, yet talks little about the Vargas dictatorship. At one point, instead of focusing on one of the multiple ethnic based colonies that are large and even to this day are important to the State, he starts talking about the anarchist colony, which was short-lived and irrelevant.
