Much of light novels where initially web novels freely published on websites like Narou by non-professional authors that latter were adapted to propper books.

You could argue this democratizes the process and opens the system, but it often results in works with pretty dry characters. (Let’s be honest, writing good characters is hard, and most people do not know how to do it.)

Which means, when I listen to light novel audiobooks to train my Japanese, I often lose focus, because the characters are so boring.

That is not the case with 負けヒロインが多すぎる! Gluttonous Anna, anxious Komari, the too-perfect Kaju, everyone is a little weird and interessing.

If you want a comedy set in high school, this is the one. Just do not expect romance, your hopes will be shattered.
